Three Soldiers received the George Mason University "Made a Difference Award" for their personal impact to the Army's three components. The awards were presented during a ceremony at the EagleBank Arena, in Fairfax, Feb. 10. Master Sgt. Amanda Nolte, second from left, 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power), received the award on behalf of the active component. In her 20 years of service, she has responded to natural disasters, including hurricanes in Texas, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Other awardees were Master Sgt. Michel Sauret, center, 200th Military Police Command, U.S. Army Reserve; and Sgt. Yijin Huang, second from right, Army National Guard. The Fairfax-Lee Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army sponsors the award. Ken Britt, far left, president, AUSA Fairfax-Lee Chapter; and Brad Edwards, far right, George Mason University athletic director, presented the awards to the Soldiers. 

Friday Seafood Buffet and Live Music

The Officers’ Club takes Fridays to a new level with their Seafood Buffet, featuring an array of East Coast seafood options, including all-you-can-eat-crab legs, shrimp, oysters and fresh fish. You can also dance to live music from the Air Play Band. The Friday Seafood Buffet is from 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $32.95 for club members, $34.95 for non-members, $14.95 for children 6-12 and free for those 5 and younger. Quarterly Training

The Fort Belvoir Army Substance Abuse Program conducts quarterly training on substance abuse awareness; suicide prevention; and Employee Assistance Program, TODAY, 9 a.m. to noon in Wood Theater. The training is open to all Service members and DoD civilians. For more, call 703-805-1010.

Wedding Fair, Bridal Show

Join the Officers’ Club, Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for a day of luxury and inspiration. The Wedding Fair and Bridal Show features tastings, bridal fashion and music. Spirit Skate

Sunday Brunch

Take part in the Officers' Club Sunday Brunch, which includes a waffle station, omelets, roast beef, champagne and more. Brunch is served from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. every Sunday and costs $26.95 for members, $28.95 for non-members, $10.95 for children 6-12, and free for children 5 and under. Play Morning

Play Morning gives youth toddler to 5 years old, and their parents, the opportunity to play with others in a fun and structured learning environment. Join Army Community Service to participate in an organized and fun learning opportunity with other children from across the installation. Play Mornings are at Specker Field House, 10 a.m. – noon, March 1, 15, and 29, April 12 and 26, May 10 and 24, and June 7. Registration is required by calling 571-231-7028.

Philadelphia Flower Show Day Trip

Join the Community Center to go to America’s leading garden and floral design show, March 9. The trip costs $90 per person and includes a luxury motor coach and entry into the 2019 Flower Show: Flower Power. The bus departs from the Community Center at 7:30 a.m. and returns at 8:30 p.m. Register by tomorrow at the Community Center. Eligible ID card holders may sponsor one non-ID Card holder. Key Personnel Leadership Training

The Family Advocacy Program has interactive training designed to increase the awareness of command’s roles and responsibilities when responding to allegations of spouse and child abuse. This training is for senior leadership, E7 and above. Training dates are April 4 and July 25. Each session is from 9-11 a.m. Register by calling 571-231-7001.

Philadelphia Day Trips

Spend the day exploring Philadelphia and let the Community Center take care of the driving. Trip dates are April 13, June 15 and Aug. 17. The trip departs from the Community Center at 7:30 a.m. Seats are $55 per person. Patrons are guaranteed six hours in the city. Each eligible ID card holder can sponsor one non-ID card holder.
