Fort Belvoir MWR installed a new scoring system at the Bowling Center to gamify bowling.

Lines formed outside the Bowling Center before the doors even opened Sunday.

“We had 40 people waiting outside before we opened,” noted George Dickson, MWR director, and shortly afterward, all 24 lanes were in use.

He said he felt it was time to offer a faster-paced game to keep the kids involved.

“Angry Birds uses a 5-frame game, and the software randomly chooses 5 pins to be knocked down for a strike,” Dickson said. The new scoring system assigns points to each frame, with the winner displayed on screen at the end.

Bowlers can request The Angry Birds game during bowling lane assignments.
